‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ is easily the best action film of the year. Brad Bird has definitely proven that his success and talent were not limited to animated pictures, and has quickly become the Hollywood’s preeminent action director.

‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’ is an excellent Cold War thriller, but its slow pace and careful style leave it feeling like it’s trying hard to be something else.

‘Young Adult’ is the new collaboration of director Jason Reitman and screenwriter Diablo Cody, and is both darkly honest and pretty darn funny.

The ‘Sherlock Holmes’ sequel is a boatload of action-filled fun, with enough cleverness and “wit” to satiate even the proverbial barrel of monkeys (I enjoy mixing metaphors).

‘The Sitter’ is a reasonably funny, if utterly by the numbers, movie in the classic “redemptive and vulgar jerk with a heart of gold story.”

‘New Year’s Eve’ is the latest in a line of movies with ‘Love Actually’ at its emotional core. Unfortunately, it falls into ‘Valentine’s Day’ territory, which is not a good thing.

Muppet fans, this is what we’ve been waiting for. It’s time to put on make-up, it’s time to light the lights, and it’s time for a whole new generation to meet the Muppets.
