The Simpsons: The Complete 11th Season. I really only started watching this series after the movie came out last year (knocking myself upside the head). And, well, I have a 13-year-old son in the house, so it’s pretty much required that I watch The Simpsons. We started buying the series from the beginning, until I quickly realized I’d go bankrupt with a whopping 20 seasons so far. That the writing has stayed fresh and funny is truly amazing. Buy It.
30 Rock: Season 2. While Alec Baldwin still bugs the heck out of me (I can’t get past him calling his daughter a pig), I love Tina Fey, so am willing to sit through Baldwin to see her. She’s one of the great comedic talents of this era and deserves all the Emmys she gets. Buy It.
How I Met Your Mother: Season 3. This season doesn’t measure up as well as Season 2 (I didn’t like the ongoing conflict between the friends), but still very funny stuff. Standout episode: “Ten Sessions,” chronicling Ted’s two-minute date. Buy It.
Robot Chicken: Season 3. The 13-year-old has also turned me onto this show and it’s seriously goofy and funny. I’m almost embarrassed to be watching, but I can’t look away. Buy It.
The Munsters: The Complete Series. Adams Family or Munsters? It’s a question that’s plagued TV viewers for ages, and our household was always in the Adams Family camp (“They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky…” All together now!). But this is nothing against The Munsters, which features legends like Fred Gwynne, Al Lewis, and Yvonne De Carlo, to name three, not to mention stints by Harvey Korman, Paul Lynde, and many others. This set also includes great special features, like The Munsters unaired pilot, and profiles of the actors. Buy It.
The Beverly Hillbillies: The Official Second Season. It’s great to see The Hillbillies on DVD, but I hope Paramount hasn’t done their usual and ruined it by editing out entire scenes and replacing scores with goofy synthesizer music. Like we wouldn’t notice. Buy It.
The Three Stooges Collection, Vol. 4: 1943-1945. Who says the Stooges are all about the guy-humor? Or, who knows, maybe I was a guy in a previous life. At any rate, I love the Stooges, and this set includes all 21 shorts released from 1943 to 1945, including the classic “Busy Buddies,” where the team ends up in a cow-milking contest to save their restaurant. Buy It.
Mission Impossible: Five TV Season Pack. We’ve been catching this series on the American Life network, which is running a lot of great old shows. What’s amazing to me is that the storylines back then — secret government agencies, covert missions, international mysteries, hostages and wars — easily translate into today’s world. Buy It.
