Tonight on the tube: A new Muppets Christmas special!

Spotlight Show of the Night

A Muppet Christmas: Letters to Santa (8:00 p.m./7:00 p.m. Central) – Say what you want about NBC, but they’re the ones airing the new Muppets Christmas special, and that’s always a good thing. We need more Muppets in our lives, and especially during these tough times. I know, it sounds a bit heady, but I really do think the Muppets are one of those feel-good creations.

Beginnings, Endings & Specials

Chocolate News (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m./9:30 p.m. Central, 1st Season Finale) – Feauturing a trip to black Comic-Con and a look at our expectations for the nation’s first black president. David Alan Grier is great in his monologues on this, but the stories themselves are rather hit or miss.

Christmas in Washington (TNT, 8:00 p.m./7:00 p.m. Central) -This annual special features Pushing Daisies’ Kristine Chenoweth (singing I think), Hootie (I know that’s not really his name) and Dr. Phil hosting!

Estate of Panic (Sci Fi, 10:00 p.m./9:00 p.m. Central, 1st Season Finale) -This week the house takes the contestants to the attic, cemetery and a mudslide room (because who doesn’t have one of those. Like Cha$e this show got kind of dull fast.

L.A. Holiday Celebration 2008 (PBS, 10:00 p.m./9:00 p.m. Central) – A look at the annual multicultural holiday special in Los Angeles.

Life (NBC, 9:00 p.m./8:00 p.m. Central, 2nd Season Fall Finale) -Reese reverts to old habits while the murders of three Russians may lead to a connection to the Seybolt murders.

Parking Wars (A&E, 10:00 p.m./9:00 p.m. Central, 2nd Season Finale) -Let’s wrap up the second season by towing a wedding guest’s car (Surprise!) and forcing travelers from Atlanta to try and get their car out of the impound lot before their flight home. Now that’s Christmas!

Shot Down: Search for the Lost Fighter (National Geographic Channel, 8:00 p.m./7:00 p.m. Central) – This special follows a team as they salvage a WWII fighter plane from an Austrian lake, and then reunite it with the American pilot who flew it.

Stylista (The CW, 9:00 p.m./8:00 p.m. Central, 1st Season Finale) -After the week’s project, which involved creating a magazine cover featuring Eve, the winner of the first season is selected.

Top Chef (Bravo, 10:00 p.m./9:00 p.m. Central) – This episode is a 75-minute holiday-themed special event. They even got Martha Stewart herself to come in and judge the quickfire challenge.

Okay, I’ll give NBC a small bit of credit for running a new Muppets special, but it’s not enough to say they’re doing things right. NBC doing this one good thing is more like a single, tiny chocolate chip sitting atop a huge, steaming cow pat.

I missed the Muppets?!?! And it was on NBC??? Disney, owner of ABC, owns The Muppets.
