Frakkin’ Clack – The webisodes conclude, now on with the season!

Saul Tigh - Webisode 10

Since the last Frakkin’ Clack, the final two Battlestar Galactica webisodes made their way (officially) online. In my experience, webisodes usually don’t reveal anything “big” or plot oriented that regular viewers of the televised show would necessarily miss. This time, though, we got a juicy nugget of info in episode nine that relates back to episode 13 of season three (“Taking A Break From All Your Worries”Battlestar Galactica - Battlestar Galactica, Season 3 - Taking a Break from All Your Worries), with what Baltar whispered in Gaeta’s ear.

I recall, back when “Worries” aired, that there was a lot of speculation and discussion about what Baltar could have said to Gaeta to make him lash out so violently. I don’t think writer Jane Espenson was clear on whether that decision was made long ago or just now for these webisodes. Rather than spoil it for you, go check out the webisode and find out what Baltar said.

That said, it was a great reveal to get us looking forward to the remaining episodes of the series (as if we needed anything more to get us excited). I, for one, can’t wait to see what Gaeta has planned and what he has to discuss with Bill Adama. The exchange with Tigh was a highlight for me (hence the reaction shot I took above).

As was mentioned earlier, Amazon mistakenly released the webisodes online early, which allowed some people to throw them on YouTube for all to see. The one missing webisode, however, was number nine. Some questioned whether that episode was purposely not posted early and, after seeing it, I’m starting to think that may be the case. It was in the ninth episode that the Baltar whisper was revealed, after all.

As you know, the series picks up again this Friday night (whoot!), and we’re hosting a chat during the episode, with a little round-table chat shortly following, for anyone who wants to stick around. I’ve embedded the chat interface below with the date and time, so you can set yourself up with an email reminder. I’ll post the same thing in a new post Friday night (but you can always return here). Until then, someone find me a place to buy this frakking poster!

Remarkable how much expression Hogan can get out of just one eyeball.

Gaeta’s Gambit should be interesting/painful to watch.

And I’ve heard tell the final gets revealed in this first episode.

I’ll second your “whoot” and raise you a “Roger Rabbit Dance”.

I think when its all said and done, Hogan may very well have been the best thing about this show. He is an _incredible_ actor.

January 13, 2009 at 4:31 PM

Look…Im back!

My wife and I are constantly quoting Monsters Inc during any scene where Hogan rips out an awesome performance with “HIS ONE EYE!!!!”

Welcome back Akbar. BSG would not be the same without Akbar.

January 13, 2009 at 6:17 PM

Oh you cant get rid of me that easily. I’m like Roslin’s cancer ;)

January 13, 2009 at 6:28 PM

Just in time for the season to start, just about everyone’s around. I think cress-d is the only one I haven’t seen in a bit.

I can’t wait for Friday ;)

January 13, 2009 at 6:31 PM

Glad to see the gang is all here. Cress better show his head.

Fair warning, I wont be able to comment on the episode til Saturday evening. The misses is out on Friday night and wont let me watch it til Saturday. (It’s a good thing I love her. :)
Hope I don’t miss much real time conversation.

As for finally finding out the reason for Gaeta’s flip out in Baltar’s cell, look back to when he flipped out at almost being airlocked by the Circle. His own guilt now (if we accept that 8 wasn’t lying about him knowing but lying to himself) shows a bit differently. I imagine his “plan” is at its core a move for self redemption.

Oooooh redemption? Didn’t the old hybrid speak of that? Why yes…yes he did. Check it:
“And the fifth still in shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering.”

Let that one sink in now and consider Gaeta moved up on my short list of possible 5th models.

January 13, 2009 at 6:31 PM

Good point…

However, I really don’t want Gaeta to be the 5th, though. I’m not sure why, but I just don’t like his story going in that direction.

January 13, 2009 at 6:33 PM

I second that not wanting Gaeta to be it. My line of thinking could be inline with what they have going on but could easily be a red herring. We know how RDM loves to do that.

I still want it to be Zarek. I still hold onto RDM’s “look back to the beginning” clue for the 5th to mean look all the way back to the original series.

Thinkgeek is the place to go for some awesome BSG stuff. Here is the pack of posters you seek:
https://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/posters/a42d/

They have a few other cool things as well. Gotta love Thinkgeek.

January 13, 2009 at 6:33 PM

Nice spam! You get paid to post that comment or are you just a bot?

January 14, 2009 at 9:15 AM

Oh boy… BSG comments wouldn’t be the same if Akbar wasn’t rude to other commenters… Keith asked where to get the posters, he just provided the link.

January 14, 2009 at 10:30 AM

Rick, you should notice below that I did apologize for my action and start accusing me of being rude all the time. A simple mistake was made, no need for you to start this ridiculous attack on me again.

January 14, 2009 at 9:12 AM

I bought those posters for a friend for Christmas. They are really nice quality. They have the cut-off edges so you have to modify the mounting board if you’re going to frame the picture, but they are well worth it! My friend loved them. I think there was 6 in the pack.

January 13, 2009 at 6:40 PM

Not spam, he asked where to get that poster and I supplied the link. I happen like Thinkgeek as I have bought a few cool things from them.

Sorry for being enthusiastic about it… sheesh

January 13, 2009 at 6:43 PM

My apologies. Comment came across a little too spammy for me but then im sensitive to stuff like that lately.(and I missed the line in the original post, totally my fault)

January 13, 2009 at 6:45 PM

although why Keith couldn’t just google “battlestar galactica poster” I am not sure. :)

January 13, 2009 at 6:50 PM

Right on, no worries. Spam irritates me as well. Yes, google is your friend. However, I have been eyeing these posters for a while so I recognized it as soon as I saw the pic he linked. Love the style.

Anyway, looking forward to everyone’s comments after Friday night!

I am now pretty convinced the final is Ellen. Not really thrilled about it though. I’m glad the reveal is early in 4.5.

Oh, and this first episode runs three and a half minutes over. So set DVR’s accordingly!

January 13, 2009 at 6:57 PM

Well, cant be Ellen if we go with the “Final Five=No Rebirth” that RDM stood by.

Shes dead.

January 13, 2009 at 7:10 PM

Well maybe she is not dead. Maybe the poison did not kill her. Maybe Cavil has her stashed.
We’ll find out……

January 13, 2009 at 9:09 PM

To me, bringing her back would really sully the emotion Tigh went through killing her (or not and her taking her own life actually).

January 13, 2009 at 10:33 PM

I get what you are saying, and I don’t like Ellen for final either, but the Magic Eight Ball says yes for her ;). Also, think about the last supper pic. – Married couples get to sit together.

And if I’m wrong, I’ll happily swallow the Magic Eight Ball, then you all can beat me with your remotes.

January 13, 2009 at 8:49 PM

I’d rather it be Ellen than Gaeta.

January 14, 2009 at 7:15 PM

But Akbar makes a great point. Having Ellen still be alive sullies both Tigh’s grief and Hogan’s performance.

January 14, 2009 at 7:31 PM

If it were mine to decide, it would be Cottle the string puller. “Word has it” that the reveal really pushes the story along in amazing ways. When I hear that, and add it to what is known about the TV movie “The Plan” airing later this year, it solidifies Ellen in my mind.

But if I’m wrong, as I very well could be – I know I will have to wear the Cliqueclack hat of shame.

January 14, 2009 at 7:43 PM

No you won’t bsgfan2003, your guess is as good as any. The main problem with Ellen is what Akbar mentioned about that “no-rebirth” theory. That would seem to preclude her, but with the way these writers throw curveballs, who knows?

Say, you guys are in for a treat (if you have not already viewed them) with these deleted scenes in season four. Some of them really give some insights.

January 13, 2009 at 10:22 PM

Great Heavens!…..we’re on the verge of history……

January 13, 2009 at 10:41 PM

And the cup in the Last Supper pic. that is in front of her could represent the cup of poison that she drank from.

January 13, 2009 at 11:06 PM

That’s a fair interpretation of the cup. I had not thought of that one.

March 14, 2009 at 8:41 AM

It’s the first time I commented here and I should say you give genuine, and quality information for bloggers! Great job.
p.s. You have a very good template . Where did you find it?
