It’s been an interesting week in Jane’s World, with TV poker, those ultra-cool Rescue Me spots, and Buffy season six shooting to the top of my Clack list. Read on, and feel free to clack your heart out in the comments.
I don’t really get watching poker on TV. I caught part of Poker After Dark the other night, and it’s just not interesting at all. Maybe it’s like golf, where you have to BE a golf or poker player to get into watching it on TV. My son happily provided the hushed narration for Poker After Dark for me: “He’s picking a card up … and now… he’s putting a card down …” That about sums it up. Although I checked out the site and was fascinated to learn that actress Jennifer Tilley is now a professional poker player. That’s pretty darn cool.
The Damages finale really delivered. Most of season two meandered aimlessly, but last week’s finale actually made me gasp. We knew several weeks ago that the season would end with a blood-spattered Patty stumbling out of Ellen’s hotel room. It never occurred to me that Patty hadn’t been shot — mainly because they kept replaying the flash-forward with Ellen sitting across the table from her with a gun. But in an awesome bit of storytelling, we learn that Patty was actually knifed in the elevator BEFORE meeting Ellen. Patty knew that the plan she’d set in motion had to be completed at all costs — possibly even her bleeding to death.
Buffy Update: I just started season six of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and wow! My nephew warned me that the emotional roller-coaster wouldn’t be over, and two episodes in, he wasn’t kidding. This is gearing up to be another great season, and I’m so glad the gang is back together. Willow and Tara are the most adorable couple ever, and I look forward to seeing what happens with Buffy and Spike (Angel who?). And oh yeah, I’m still watching Angel. Still don’t like it as much as Buffy, but still watching.
I’m loving the Rescue Me spots. I’ve been hit-and-miss with Rescue Me over the past few years (considering it last aired on TV a year and a half ago, it wasn’t that hard to do), but the TV spots have me all geared up for the new season, which starts Tuesday, April 7, 10 PM on FX. I have this completely irrational attraction to Denis Leary’s flawed Tommy Gavin, and the spots showing him and his crew as giant firefighters watching over NYC are making me a little insane.
I just finished watching Buffy Season 1 :-) If I put in some effort I’ll be able to catch up with you so I’ll be able to talk about season six although I think I know what happens at the end of it. A lot of Witchcraft if I’m not wrong :-)
Oh and about Jennifer Tilley: I watched the whole of Frasier in December and boy compared to that stupid bar floozie she played there being a poker pro now – wowie.
Plus she’s so yummy (sorry ^^;)
I think the season 5 finale of Buffy is the best episode of the series. Watching Buffy run down that platform in slow motion still gives me chills.
Season six is incredibly frustrating, that’s all I’ll say, but there is a great payoff.
Rescue Me promos: Outstanding.

Sebastian – Do some marathon sessions so we can talk! What’s bad is that my daughter just jumped into the series on season six, and she’s already ahead of me so I’m having to cut her off every time she starts talking about it.
Bob D. – Oh my, yes on that slo-mo run down the platform. And just when I thought I’d barely recovered from it, they showed it again at the beginning of season six!
Ruprecht – My DVR is already on season pass for Rescue Me.
