Grey’s Anatomy – Should Callie cut Dad-ties over her lesbianism?

Along with the Izzie-dying story on Grey’s Anatomy this week, the other one that got me fired up was Callie and her dad (played by the always-brilliant Hector Elizondo).

First of all, the scene where Callie let loose in Spanish was brilliant. We’ve seen bits and pieces of her heritage here and there, but this really drilled it home. I know a little Spanish, but even if you don’t know any, you can pretty much imagine what she was saying.

It would be a really tough spot to be in. She said her dad has supported her all the way, i.e. paying her rent, paying for medical school, setting up a trust fund … everything so she can focus on being the best doctor she can be.

But after he learns she’s a lesbian, he wants to drag her home so she can be around her family. And what? Not be a lesbian anymore? I guess it’s easy for us to sit out here and say, that’s just dumb. But really, he tries to make a big donation to Seattle Grace which, in essence, would be buying her out of her job there? That’s just dumb. And let’s not forget that he went all Jack Bauer on both George and Mark, so clearly, daddy has some issues. But he’s just doing what he thinks is best for his daughter.

Then again, she’s not 12 anymore. She’s a grown woman. So maybe it’s time for her to stand on her own anyway (though a trust fund would be really hard to turn down). And if he’s paid for everything, it’s not like she has a mountain of med school debt staring at her. She should be alright.

What would you have done in that instance? Cut ties with your dad? Or leave your life behind and move home? Or is there another option I’m not thinking of?

If he’s been supporting her all the way with all this cash, can someone remind me why she was sleeping in the storage room with her own pretend apartment set up when she and George first met?

If he loved her that much, then he would love her for who she is, not who he wants her to be.

All that said, the Callie Arizona relationship sucks. They brought on a character strictly to make her a lover with Callie. Like Cristina and McBadass, they’re all into each other just like that. One scene of exploration and they’re all in. I mean, seriously. There is too much incest in this hospital. I don’t see how they ever get any work done, with all the inbreeding!

ps – if someone wants to rant on me for using the word incest when its a terrible thing and shouldn’t be used lightly, please don’t.

all I can say is I looked to my friend ,when he said he was going to talk to the chief, and said head to the bank and make a withdraw. I know when I came out I waited til after Christmas, cause I knew I was getting equipment for a darkroom and I thought to myself well if they disown me at least I can try and make a living. They didn’t disown me, I was lucky. Not everyone is lucky to have a supportive family. It happens a lot, children being disowned/kicked out because they are gay, which is a shame.

modwild- everyone dating people at the hospital doesn’t bother me. That’s were they spend all their time, where else can they meet someone. Even the bar they go to is the bar across from the hospital. I get it. Worked in the restaurant industry and everyone seemed to date someone from work. It happens
