“Do you think this is really Hillary Clinton doing it with Oprah?” – Raj
“We need to get you a girl.” – Leonard
It happened! Obviously, CBS heard my cries of despair. I can only take my suspension of disbelief so far and the Leonard/Penny true love just blew it all kerflooey. However, I noticed we never saw the actual break-up. Oh, we saw Wil Wheaton plant the seed to the break-up. But now, bazinga, they’re no longer a couple and we don’t know how it all went down! How sensitive and thoughtful of the producers — they didn’t want us to sniffle while giggling at Sheldon, Raj, and Howard.
What we got tonight was the aftermath and Sheldon’s quandary. Does he remain friends with Penny? After all, he worked hard to fit her in as a friend. Or does he, as Howard tells him, stick with the bro over the ho? Spaghetti with little hot dogs made up his mind for him. They’re so Eyetalian, y’know.
He had to supply his own hot dogs for the meal. We’re talking tangent here. Howard got some screen time as did a rottweiler, a.k.a. hellhound. I don’t know. I think Penny should know that Sheldon smuggled the hot dogs down his pants to sneak over for the dinner. It might have changed the show right then and there!
In the end, we’re all hunky-dory with the five-some once again. Penny and Leonard take on parental roles for the dear socially misguided Sheldon and everybody’s friends just like before the big bad WRONG romance. Phew! I’m glad we got that out of the way before next season!
The best line of the night? I liked Sheldon’s Me-Maw quote: “It looks like we butchered a pig, but no one wanted bacon.” It’s just so quaint, isn’t it?
How about Penny and Sheldon?
IMO, they would be a better couple. :D
You are wrong and so many levels it’s amusing. To me the show has officially jumped the shark with the breakup that was obviously coming – they are going to turn this into another ross/rachel mess. Count me out – I have tuned out… as well as 20% of the original watchers. I leave the show to the stupid audience that’s now tuned in: wanna-be cool, stupid, mean people. You know the same folks that watch HIMYM and 2.5 men? Most of them 30 to 40ish year old chicks with relationship problems who hated Penny/Leonard because Leonard reminds them of the nice guy they CAN get instead of the knuckle dragging thugs and gay guys they can’t have.
gosh you sound like you didn’t get the woman you wanted… a tad bit bitter are we?
I however happen to enjoy HIMYM, hate 2.5 men and love big bang theory.
Couldnt really give a toss about leonard and penny to be honest. I prefer Sheldon’s character.
Oh and I am not stupid, but you are an ass… which might explain why your girl left you for a, what was it? knuckle dragging thug? Oh yes.
it appears like giselle feels the need to bash other people’s opinions, huh? you know, I never much cared one way or the other for P/L or P/S, but after hearing all the Leonard hate and the P/L hate I ship them now. I didn’t decide to, but they grew on me and now I adore them.
Bazinga.
I just think it was too simple. It was easy to break them up, no real thought there just oh okay lets break them up. Would have been better to see them twist and turn a bit and try and figure out how to mesh their back grounds and all that a bit more.
I don’t watch a lot of television, however this was one show that I looked forward to watching. Not only was there a good laugh to be had, but I could see some growth in the characters. Not only were Penny & Leonard good friends, but they finally became a couple. When I saw the breakup episode. It was all too easy. I agree totally with disgusted’s comment. However, this being almost the end of the season, it could be the cliff hanger that the producers want so that everyone talks about the show. But if P&L have truely broken up, then I can’t see any reason for watching the show.
I’m let down too, but I have a good feeling that we haven’t seen the last of Penny and Leonard, or ‘Lenny’ as some people have referred to them. I really enjoyed watching the dynamics of the close friendship that all of the characters have with each other, and for me Leonard and Penny’s dating relationship was icing on the cake. It was fun watching Leonard and Penny’s romantic interest in each other grow over time, and the kiss they shared after Leonard returned from the North Pole was perfect. It’s great that the show’s writers were smart enough to let the Leonard and Penny characters have an adult, sexual relationship; and the matter-of-fact way that intimacy between L & P was perfect for the tone of the show. It was inevitable that L & P would break-up at some point, it’s really the only way to keep us (the viewers) interested in the sexual/romantic tension simmering under the surface. Now we have funny romantic missteps and heart-tugging emotional mistakes to look forward to until Leonard and Penny find their way back to each other for good. I think that if the writers handle this as brilliantly as they handled the first season, then we have a lot of fun to look forward to.
Penny and Leonard will get back together. The sparks are there, he loves her, it’s not just about sex anymore, and she cares so much for him. The writers know what a great couple they are and they, as well as the cast, know how popular they are with fans (yes, the S/P community is (was?) bigger online).
They’ll get back together. And as for people who hate them together and don’t like seeing them as a couple? I have a solution. Don’t watch the show. Then you won’t see it.
