I sincerely wish that the Private Practice writers would cease and desist with all these inane love triangles, or at least have the main characters find love interests who work OUTSIDE of their office building. Couldn’t they try to widen the romantic circles?
When I heard Sheldon confide in Addison that he is in love with Charlotte — even though he’s been counseling Charlotte about how to get back with Cooper — I literally groaned. Why must they torture poor Sheldon like this? “I’ll give you everything, the whole package, right down to the picket fence,” Sheldon said earnestly, after Charlotte told him Cooper wouldn’t open up to her emotionally. “I’ll give it to you.”
I do not want to see the next season filled with scenes of Cooper trying to get Charlotte back — isn’t that what this season was? — or with Sheldon chasing Charlotte. Why, I ask, do we have to go down this well-trod road?
We’ve already had to watch Naomi — who’s been tending to the extremely sick William — ask her former/soon-to-be-again lover/co-worker Gabriel to flout medical ethics guidelines and give William experimental protocols for ALS so he might, perhaps, recover, or at least live longer. This was in the context of Gabriel declaring his love for Naomi, shortly after William said he wanted to spend his dying moments with Naomi.
Additionally, there were clear moments in the latest episode where Addison and Sam demonstrated that they have undeniable chemistry and feelings for one another, even though Addison’s dating their former colleague Pete, who, during this episode, tearfully accepted the apology of his baby mama Violet whom he still loves and who still loves him even though she sued him for custody. And lost.
The preview for next week suggested that Cooper’s going to be snapped out of his malaise and finally pursue Charlotte again . . . good grief.
On top of all that, the tail-end of this episode made my blood boil. Seriously Private Practice writers? Didn’t you conclude the previous season with a pregnant cast member in peril? Did you really have to have Maya get into a serious car accident right when she’s in labor? Maybe this is a Shonda Rhimes thing. When Bailey gave birth on Grey’s Anatomy, it was when her husband, who’d gotten into a car accident on the way to the hospital, was in surgery and there was a bomb in the building. On Private Practice‘s season finale last year, Violet had her baby literally cut from her body as she lay there, unable to move, as a crazy patient stole her baby. Now 15 year-old Maya’s going to have her baby under violent, life-threatening circumstances, and Addison has to try to come to the rescue?
At least if something really bad happens to Maya, she kind of already gave Naomi absolution for her horrendous behavior earlier in the season when Naomi slapped Maya in the face and tried to force her into having an abortion against her will. After not speaking to Maya for months after Maya got married, in this episode Naomi attended Maya’s last ultrasound and said she was sorry she hadn’t been there for her.
“You not being around actually helped,” Maya said. “It gave me a chance to grow up, figure things out for myself.”
Am I the only Private Practice viewer who has grown tired of the in-the-building love triangles, and who doesn’t want to end the season with another pregnant woman in a life-or-death situation?

When three of your main cast are in baby related fields (Addison, Naomi, and Dell), you are going to have far more baby related stories. It’s probably the weakest element of the show.
