Assuming you’ve watched all season, then you’ve already seen this episode. It was the premiere, more or less. Unnecessary time travel mumbo jumbo made titillating by killing Allison for a moment. As if.
The Eureka summer finale attempts to put to rest what the fabulous five encountered with their quantum leap; they make a final promise that no one would ever know it happened (being caught messing with time travel protocol would be “bad,” as Fargo warns repeatedly), and Dr. Grant leaves town. James Callis was a golden addition to the cast and I’m pissed to see him go. They left a crack in the door to break their promise via the antics of Jo and Zane, but that’s small potatoes in comparison to what could have happened. I mean, anything is possible when you’re messing with the time space continuum. But, alas, it seems we’ve seen all we’re going to see. They engaged the time travel ploy to rewrite affairs they didn’t necessarily like, such as the games keeping Jack and Allison apart, and they’re not going to look back.
Was anything gained? The misgivings I had of Dr. Grant going to the dark side were erased, as he turned out to be a good guy. Sucks he won’t be around for us to enjoy. We learned Beverly Barlowe’s plans didn’t go as expected, and she has her eye on a new target: Jack. A new target for what? No idea. She’s still conspiring with the Consortium, but there was no cliffhanger. Beverly targeting Jack for the unknown just isn’t a compelling reason to tune in for the second half of the season.
SPOILER ALERT! The preview for the Christmas episode featured weapons pointed at Santa Claus as he flew over town and an angry Fargo simmering at the potential hacker Santa must be for knowing his ultimate Christmas gift. So, it will be cute. Eureka was mindless fun last year. Was the summer fizzler setting us up for more mindless fun, or will Beverly’s quest eek out some more dark undertones for the second half of the season? Guess we won’t know until it comes back. Whatever it is, I can wait.
I for one couldn’t disagree more. This season of Eureka, with the time travel bit, and Dr. Grant was about the worst thing I have seen on what had been a good show. I came close several times this season to drop Eureka from my list of shows to see. The only saving grace, was Jack and Allison finally getting together. Maybe they have now returned it to a show I am looking forward to seeing return for a second half.

Here’s hoping we’re both satisfied with the return of Eureka. Fingers crossed!!
BEst season… loved the character development. Sorry for Jo though… and the actress Erica C really pulled on her emotional side to play Jo Lupo in all her emotional ups-and-downs with the time-travel shifts, Zane, her job etc. On the upside nice to see Henry move on from Kim…And WHO didn’t love it that Jack and Allison FINALLY got together??!! Amazing! Four years overdue but their scenes together were beautiful, especially when they revealed how they really felt about each other TO each other. Loved the addition of James C, he’s no Nathan Stark, but definitely played the 50’s charming gentleman quite well. Sorry to see him go, but somehow I don’t think we have seen the last of him.
