So, let’s get the annoying new team member out of the way first … Analyst Nell Jones. For those of you who found Nate annoying, I can’t imagine you are much happier with his replacement in Nell Jones. Unfortunately, she has not added to the show in the same positive way as Deeks. While I think she is supposed to be annoying, why do shows feel the need to include a character like hers? I don’t see how she contributes to the team dynamic. And, it doesn’t look like she will be leaving anytime soon.
As I said, this episode should have been called “Couples.” There was Sam and Callen. Kensi and Deeks. Eric and Nell. The teams of Sam/Callen and Kensi/Deeks have carried over from last week. While it has worked, I hope it isn’t permanent. I like the different rapport between the various pairings. I especially think it is interesting to see Callen and Deeks together. And, though it was hinted at, I hope they don’t go down the romantic road with Kensi and Deeks.
I thought the case of the week about stolen Iraqian artifacts wasn’t anything special. Though, I liked the flow of the team figuring out what the missing hand meant in the murders, and how Sam realized the Iraq national was being set up. A paper bag — that was the killer’s mistake. What did you make of him raising his one hand out the window when caught? I thought for a second that, when he raised his other hand, it was going to be missing.
I can’t end without mentioning Hetty’s birthday. Did the team do the right thing by ignoring it? What was Nell thinking with the balloons and music? I loved Hetty’s and the team’s reaction. How about you?
It was Iraq not Afghanistan.

Duh. Thank you.
What exactly does Deeks add? Why get rid of Nate to add comic relief which isn’t funny? NCIS:LA is losing me. Keep Sam/Callen/Hetty and lose the rest of the gang and start over…maybe blow up their idiotic base and kill the them off.
I like Deeks. I think he is a good addition to the team. He provides a more relaxed, casual aspect to the team. I hope that Nate isn’t really gone and that his new assignment will play into the show.
The new analyst … go away. Please.
What was the birthday song playing at Hetty’s birthday (at the end of the last episode? And who sang it? Does anyone know?
It’s a 1992 release called “Happy Birthday to Me” by Cracker.
