It’s double exodus night on American Idol

Because of last week's rescue of Casey Abrams by the judge's one and only competition save of the season, two contestants leave this episode. Did they deserve it?

- Season 10, Episode 24 - "Top 11 Double Elimination"

The answer is yes: They deserved it.

“… and so it goes and so it goes and so it goes and so it goes … where it’s goin’ no one knows …”

But one thing we do know: Naima and Thia won’t make it back to the American Idol stage until the very last of the season to witness the winner.

So, what is it exactly we learned from this little experiment? Why were these two gals sent packing?

  • Do. Not. Reggae-fy. An. Elton. John. Tune. Period. Ever.
  • A 15 year-old just might be too young to handle the overwhelming crush of everything. (This was painfully obvious in Thia’s case.)

I’ve been pining for Naima to get ousted for weeks now. I was in total disagreement and against the judges saving her a few weeks back. So when it smacked me right up along side the head that she was headed out, it was unexpected. It didn’t stop me from grinning ear to ear like a proverbial Cheshire cat, however.

We want an Idol with manageable chaos we can relate to or be titillated by, not things such as awkward drum-accompanied stage flailing. (Kudos for setting your own tone, but the bottom line was you were too “out there” for most of us, Niama. And some might call me prudish, but I’m telling you: The tattoos didn’t help.)

And Thia? Beautiful voice, but I really do believe the pressure of the stage and the crowd, and the demands they employ of a contestant, engulfed and smothered her in the end.

One more thing: Fantasia? Just my opinion, but … any one of the current contestants could’ve done better than you did on the show.

Now, onward … to next week’s songs from The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Aw heck……I’m going to miss Naima a bit. She’s flashy. Something I ain’t. I was OK with the results.

Has Fantasia gained about 100 pounds??? Too much ‘cornbread and collards’? Can’t help it…… I still like her. *ducks and rolls stage left*
