Sharp is the word when it comes to the latest episode of Marc Cherry’s delightfully wicked soap opera. Perchance this is because the installment served as a mid-season cliffhanger of sorts, and we all know how the writers treat these kinds of dramatic episodes. With so much transpiring during the hour, perhaps it would be smart to start from the beginning. To that end, let’s talk about Chuck.
I’m honestly trying to figure out what kind of medication Chuck is on, because it’s pretty obvious that the man is as nutty as a Snickers bar. After harassing Bree in the previous episode, he began this one interrogating Susan, Lynette and Gabrielle in reference to the illustrated confession that (hopelessly clueless) Susan painted. Both Susan and Lynette managed not to crack. However, Gaby wasn’t quite able to keep her cool and Chuck decided to dig into her past. More on that later. …
Lynette continued to annoy me this week. For some reason she felt the need to bring Tom in on the secret … just as he and Jane were heading to Paris for a romantic getaway. Yes, she really confronted him at the airport prompting Jane to leave without him … not that I could blame her. You know, I was on Tom’s side at first and then I was on Lynette’s; now, I just don’t care. I feel as though the writers are going nowhere fast, and as a result, Lynette’s plot has become a tad mundane. At least, that’s my opinion. Am I in the minority here? Let’s move on, shall we?
Renee had a storyline of her very own this week which is great, considering the fact that Vanessa Williams is one of the best things to happen to the show in recent years. It seems Renee has become rather suspicious of Ben’s relationship with Bree who has returned to the booze. After seeing Ben comfort Bree with a warm hug, Renee confronted the Aussie only to be interrupted by loony Chuck who arrived to agitate him. With a little moral boost from the underused Mrs. McCluskey, Renee decided to apologize for her suspicions and put on her tightest leather outfit for a night with Ben, but was surprised when she realized he wasn’t home. To add insult to injury, she saw Bree leaving her home and hopping into her car. Tangled webs, folks, tangled webs!
Speaking of which, perhaps it’s time to get back to loopy Chuck. It turns out that he was the victim of a hit and run at the end of the episode. Surprised? I can’t say that I was. This is, what, the one-thousandth hit and run on this show? Groundbreaking. After confronting Gabrielle with evidence that proved that Alejandro was indeed her stepfather, Gaby tried to alert Carlos who was being kept at a rehabilitation clinic. However, after learning of Gaby’s previous interrogation, Carlos managed to escape the facility right before crazy Chuck’s puzzling accident. So, the mystery remains: who killed Detective Chuck Vance?
And here’s something else to ponder: that chilling final scene with Bree. Checking into a motel, an intoxicated Bree had a vision of Mary Alice. She also had a gun. Is she going to kill herself? Doubtful. Then again, this is the final season.
So, with that being said and done, what do you guys think? The next episode of Desperate Housewives airs January 8 – sheesh, how can they be so cruel? – and we’ve been left with some pressing questions. Who killed Chuck – Ben or Carlos? Personally, my money is on Ben. Will Lynette and Tom get back together? And will Susan get a decent plot? I mean, come on, we all know she’s not moving to New York! Feel free to sound off in the comments below!
Jaylen Christie is a journalist, actor, humorist and devoted advocate of the unappreciated superhero Aquaman, who really enjoys expanding upon a versatile resume. By day, he’s a kindhearted technology writer for a web hosting company, and by night, he is a fanatical television junkie with a love of quality programming and fizzy Mountain Dew. He’s also working on a series of comedic novels that will be … EPIC!
Ben – motive – Chuck was going to shut his project down.
Carlos – Don’t hurt my trophy wife
Tom – I really love Lynette and besides – if she goes to Jail I have to take care of those awful kids.
Mike – He’s into the plot as thick as they go – he buried the body.
Bree – she was going to kill herself anyway – why not take this guy with her.
Susan – It was an accident – she just wanted to talk to him and accidentally rolled him over.
Seems as if EVERYONE has a motive
Don’t forget about Renee, Jeff! She could have been following Bree to the motel to see if she was going to meet Ben! Perhaps it was an accident. Now, wouldn’t THAT be interesting! Food for thought!
First and foremost I must give credit where credit is do…Jaylen your editorial was on point. You took me back to last night’s episode. Basically, if I had not seen the episode I could have just read your review. Great attention to detail! Your words were so colorful this could have gone straight from your computer to radio. But enough with the praises…you already know you can write.
Let’s get down to business. I agree with your thoughts about Tom and Lynette wholeheartedly. It’s getting to the point where their relationship is becoming too much of a hassle for the audience to keep up with. Women are so fickle. At first she didn’t want the man now she is all in. It doesn’t work like that honey! And let’s not get started on Tom…who by the way is still married to Lynette throughout all of his “lunch dates.”
Moving on Susan is a dumb broad. If she keeps up those childish antics Mike my leave her. She puts on this innocent front. Susan…the same woman who took a job on an internet sex site as a naughty maid. I’m just saying.
Moving on to Chuck…wait a minute Chuck who? Someone has done them all a favor, so, they all should just leave well enough alone.
Renee is going to mess Bree up about that “Hot Aussie” — Ben. That is of course if Bree doesn’t kill herself first. Speaking of Bree she is a cold blooded killer and a self proclaimed accessory after the fact. So, she is one of my top picks. And plus the car that hit Chuck looked like Bree’s. But once again, I’m just saying.
Agree on the car. It looked just like the one that pulled out of Ben’s driveway that evening. Coincidence that we see that black car twice? I think not.
This is true. I still believe it to be Ben! He’s very mysterious, and with Chuck out of the way, I think the writers can now focus on the mystery surrounding Ben. What is he up to? Is Renee in danger?
I knew they were taking Bree in the suicide direction for a while now, but am unsure if she will actually do it. Ben killed him. They made a big deal about him not answering the door for a reason and they only showed Bree driving away to try to throw us off track. I am convinced of this.
I agree, that was an excellent recap of Sunday nights episode. But back to Chuck, I think Ben killed him because Renee went to his house to show him she is the only woman for him, and surprisingly he wasn’t there. She knocked and knocked before she saw drunken Bree get in her car and drive off. He has a motive: Chuck was going to shut down his construction thing. He also seemed to really like Bree as a friend because when she told Ben everything that had happened, he was going to go to the police but he didn’t and he also protected her from Chuck when he kept aggrevating her. So I think it was a friendly thing, but also a revenge thing.
Was it just me or did whoever rolled over Chuck remind you of Orson running over Mike lol?
Thanks for the compliment, Cierra. That made my day! Yes, Chuck’s hit and run did remind me of Orson running over Mike…and Andrew running over Mama Solis…and Patrick Logan running over Nick Bolen in season six. It would seem the writers are out of ideas, huh? lol
Very good review, apart from the tom/lynette thing, I want them back together! lol I’ve been watching this online, this season has been the darkest I really disliked that chuck guy, i’m glad somebody ran him over! lol This season has a hope for a happy ending hurray! I just hope it wasn’t carlos who did it. I didn’t notice the car was similar to brees. Anybody could have killed him because each of them didn’t want their lives to be ruined, interesting…
It’s interesting that none of these comments really mention Bree who is such a huge part of this episode. Honestly, I am tired of all these women, Mary-Alice Killed herself because she felt she had no one to turn to in her hour of need, now they have put Bree in the same position. With “true friends” like that, who needs enemies? I honestly hope Bree doesn’t commit suicide because I don’t think I could stomach the inevitably sappy episode where all the girls wish they had been there for Bree, see the error of their ways and done things differently, blah blah blah.
Alright first off you guys, The car that killed Chuck was Dark GREY…not black.not silver….grey…second…it was Bree’s car…my money is on Ben & Mike conspired to kill Chuck together but ultimately Ben was the one whom pulled the trigger (ran over chuck..) but thing is they weren’t even going that fast…it was more believe aide season 2 when Orson ran over mike or season 6 when nick was run over by Patrick Logan…I really wanted to see Bree personally KNIFE Chuck in the back as many times as possible amid Mary-Alice n Deidre…tho she stabbed her in the stomach..tho that was an accident..back to Tom & Lynette..I’ve been over them both since season 6. They’re just not the same anymore and they both have ran their course…I think in the end they should divorce and they should kill off Tom and Lynette moves away…Gabrielle…you know I have one major issue with her…She has always been so sassy, witty, confident, beautiful and rich (yes she was broke amid season 2 & season 5…) but yet she always had money to afford other things…)I think Gabrielle would be an amazing PARTNER as Carlos’s job…and I think she should step in and become VP! WE ALL KNOW SHE COULD DO IT! I’m sick of her bratty kids…they don’t appreciate anything..and are completely ungrateful..But maybe just Maybe it was Carlos, Ben, Tom & Mike whom all aspired to kill Chuck..ya know? like a HUSBAND PACT kinda thing…to protect their a$$es as well as their families…it would be a real twist if it was Julie, Danielle, Andrew (he’s done it before…amid s2 mama solis), Katherine (she is coming back that has been noted…) or maybe just maybe ORSON! (He’s done it before too…amid s2 via mike…) I mean think about it the writers are clever so I’m sure it will be someone we were not expecting! My money is on one of the husbands or Orson…He always loved Bree and even when she was dating Keith he backed off and dumped his gf because he was still in love with her…I think I speak for everyone when I say I would love it if Bree & Orson ended up back together for good! (: They have so much HISTORY together and I’m sure he could forgive her for covering up that family secret from so long ago that came to light amid s7. I haven’t anything to say about Susan..I am pissed at the writers and how it feels they’re dumbing down her character and story lines…so that’s what I have to say…Well tune in Jan 8th so see it all UNFOLD! It’s the FINAL SEASON….ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!!! #1FAN, –G
I really liked what you had to say in regards to who could possibly be the person that ran over Chuck. I agree with what you have to say but I still think it is Ben for obvious reasons. I then thought to myself it could be Katherine, any of Bree’s kids,or Zach. I don;t know what the writers for Desperate Housewives have in mind. I read somewhere that Bree was getting another boyfriend. For all we know he could be the killer. The writers just may bring in another person that we have never seen before and say he/she is the killer. I want to see Katherine again on the show, I liked her character and it would be amazing to see her come back and solve everything that has been going on lol. I guess now I’m just getting my hopes up.
I remember wanting to know who had been given the wrong baby a couple of seasons ago and I had thought it was two neighbors on Wisteria Lane. It turned out they had brought in a new family. This could be the very same thing they are doing now. But yeah, can’t wait until 1/8.
Also, I would like to see Bree & Orson get back together. They were so cute together. Especially in that episode when she was dating Keith and Orson stopped by, and they were throwing food at each other. It just seemed right to have them together. They had that spark!
▓▓ No matter who killed Chuck.I am glad he is OUT of the series for ever.I was tired of him.I would like Kayla (Tom’s evil daughter) to return this final season. She must be a grown up girl now.
Regards from Argentina, best place in the world.▓▓
