Fringe – Olivia remembers

Last Friday, "Fringe" ended with a kiss and this week the show picked up right after it. What did that kiss mean? Is Olivia back?

- Season 4, Episode 13 - "A Better Human Being"

She remembers! She remembers everything, even Peter! The words that came out of Olivia’s mouth were so simple, but filled with so much emotion. I cried a little. I feel for her and for Peter.

Poor Peter is fighting it almost as much as Walter was fighting against Peter when he first showed up. The look on Peter’s face as Olivia was being tested was painful to watch. He didn’t want this Olivia to have “his” Olivia’s memories. It was dishonest and he didn’t or couldn’t understand.

You would think he would be glad to have Olivia back, only he doesn’t believe she is his Olivia. And, he was right when he told her he made that mistake once before. He should be hesitant. But, he gave into the feelings and looked into her eyes — his Olivia’s eyes — and they kissed.

As I’ve been saying all season, I believe she is his Olivia. That he returned to the same universe he left  just with people who never knew him. And, they started to change their personalities due to his presence such as Walter’s leaving the lab and becoming more personable. Olivia has opened up as well. But, the memories are something different.

Is it the Cortexiphan? Has it allowed her to accept the other timeline’s memories to merge her two histories together? It would make sense for the drug to do that given its use. But, what was the original reason that Nina and David Robert Jones wanted her to take it?

Speaking of Nina and David Robert Jones, given the ending are we to assume that it was a fake Nina that was drugging Olivia, since there was a Nina tied up with Olivia? Or, is that the Nina that was drugging her? It all brings us back to what in the heck is David Robert Jones up to.

At least Walter thought to test Olivia’s hair and found out about the Cortexiphan. Peter and Olivia know now that Peter wasn’t forcing his memories on her, but Walter would have wanted proof. Now, he has it.

I was surprised when Walter told Lincoln he needed to go to the bridge to meet Nina. Is she working there? I thought maybe Massive Dynamics was over there now, but the transition was of our Statue of Liberty. Was that a clue that we should be thinking about the other side? Did we just meet Alt-Nina? Given the kidnapped Nina has an affinity for Olivia, it would seem that we did. So, if there are two Ninas which one has been drugging Olivia? Fringe always creates more questions than answers, but that’s what makes it so good; it’s never boring and always leaves us delving into the episode looking for clues.

Regarding the case of the Doctor and all his children, there really wasn’t much there. It was an interesting Fringe case that held my attention, but not much more. “A Better Human Being” was much more about Olivia and what was going on with her.

Going into next week, Olivia has been taken hostage with Nina. Walter and Lincoln found out that the Cortexiphan was stolen. And, Peter lost Olivia. He just found her and she has disappeared. Crazy! An amazing set-up for the finale before the short March break!

The Nina that was tied up is clearly the real Nina. In the episode, entitled “Enemy of My Enemy”, Nina used the shape-shifters’ typewriter to communicate with David Jones about completing phase two, which involved drugging Oliva with Cortexiphan. At some point, Nina as well as Broyles, were replaced by shape-shifters.

I think the “evil” Nina is more likely Alt-Nina than a shapeshifter. But, she definitely could be a shapeshifter.

I also don’t think Alt-Broyles is a shapeshifter, rather he is working undercover for Walternate or being blackmailed into helping David Robert Jones. His mission was to find out more about the shapeshifters. But, he could have been replaced. Definitely a possibility. The look he gave David Robert Jones when he was let out of custody didn’t seem like one a shapeshifter would make. Rather someone who didn’t really want to let him go.

Didn’t Alt-Broyles have to inject himself with something? Which I think we saw shapeshifters do before to keep themselves in their shape.

I don’t remember seeing Alt-Broyles injecting himself. There was a scene when our-Lincoln was in the utility closet and he was carrying the vials of something, but he was interrupted from doing whatever he was going to do by Walternate and Peter. I assumed he was going to use them on Lincoln because he had been looking for him prior to that scene.

Another brilliant episode.

Will watch on Hulu again to see if Alt-Nina was using her “human” right hand (not robot prosthetic) at the Lab kiosk.

LOL at Walter gulping down the chemical w/o concern “… That’s Potassium Iodine, with Red #40″

I really hope they can renew this Show, just read @ House.

Nina had two human hands in that scene from the looks of it.
