Revenge – Tyler’s killer is revealed

Shockingly, Tyler's real killer is revealed on tonight's 'Revenge!' Unfortunately, Daniel is still sent away to a maximum security prison to await trial.

- Season 1, Episode 16 - "Scandal"

I can’t believe it! I really can’t. Revenge revealed what happened on the beach already! After waiting 15 episodes to find out who died on the beach, I’m shocked the killer was revealed this very next episode.

But … I’m very happy that we know! There is plenty else going on without having to wonder about the truth. Daniel is in jail for the murder and knowing the actual truth will make watching his trial play out much more intriguing.

Though, I have to say I was confused when Victoria asked Emily about returning to her house from the beach. I was sure that I missed something. Nice play, Revenge. Until the very end, it seemed like a filler episode. We didn’t learn much at all, so when we jumped back in time, wow!

Takeda is not good guy at all. He trained Emily and when her plot was falling apart he took things into his own hands and killed Tyler. While Emily probably should thank Takeda, I don’t expect that she will. Tyler may have been silenced, but now all those around her are at risk. Chaos!

Daniel did shot Tyler once, but that was self-defense, right? I just don’t get why Takeda left Daniel there to take the fall. Perhaps, it was Emily’s punishment for developing feelings for Daniel? There is much more to Takeda than we know. Such as … where is Amanda? Did he let her go? Or, something much worse like holding on to her? Or, even kill her?

Takeda told Emily she was going to have to choose between the two people she cared about. That statement was a little odd, because even though Jack was there, he was not involved. Why would Emily have to choose to save either Daniel or Jack? Takeda must think they are the only two possible scapegoats for Tyler’s murder, of course Takeda being punished is out of the question.

The mysteries of the show did not end with the killing of Tyler that’s for sure. How will Emily fix this? Can she?

Odds and Ends

  • Declan says he will protect Jack. This is not going to end well.
  • No one seems to know what happened to Amanda, not even Emily or Nolan. Hmm….
  • The wire transferred money has to come into play. Has anyone collected it?
  • Ashley is definitely using the situation to her advantage. Though, I don’t expect it will end up working out for her. She is playing a dangerous game.
  • Daniel is going to be a scapegoat for the anger against the 1%. No bail is reasonable, but a maximum security prison seems a bit much.
  • The most touching moment has to go to Emily and Charlotte’s chat on the bench swing. They looked like sisters there. I hope Charlotte learns the truth about her father.
  • The almost most touching moment was the heart-to-heart that Victoria and Emily had over the engagement gift. I wanted to believe Victoria was sincere. The tears looked true, but I’m not sure about her accepting Emily.

I think they want us to think that Takeda killed Amanda, b/c he said something to the effect that she has been taken care of. However, I’m betting she’s still alive (though I wish he killed her!). Takeda is right that Emily is too emotionally involved. Look at the beginning of the series, how easy it was for her to cross people off her list. Now she’s in too deep!

According to Wikipedia, “Even though it is run by the NY DOC, Rikers Island is a jail and not a prison. The Rikers Island complex, which consists of ten jails, holds local offenders who are awaiting trial and cannot afford or cannot obtain bail or were not given bail from a judge, those serving sentences of one year or less, and those temporarily placed there pending transfer to another facility.”

So aside from jurisdictional questions, the judge’s decision would seem to be well within normal parameters for a murder charge. In fact, putting the defendant in a less secure facility would definitely be special treatment, and could even be considered to endanger the less violent fellow offenders in there with him.
