30 Rock – Liz has the worst first date ever; Kenneth has the best

30 Rock

What a great episode!

It’s nice to know that I’m not the only person who regularly forgets that Valentine’s day exists. In tonight’s episode, Liz accidently scheduled her first date with Drew for Valentine’s day. Oops. I’m not sure if that doomed the date or not, but the evening could definitely go down as the worst first date in the history of time. If it was going to happen to anyone, it was going to happen to Liz. Although, I have to say, that a good part of the dysfunction sat squarely on Drew’s shoulders.

It was refreshing to see that perhaps Drew is equally as insane as Liz. After all, she may have gotten caught on the toilet, made cheddar cheese stew, and accidently spilled out of her top, but I think Drew one-upped her. He managed to get all his skeletons out of the closet, including a crazy teenage daughter, an ex-wife, and a mother/grandmother sick on her death bed. I wonder how much of a future these two have with each other. I hope it’s not too brief, because I’m really enjoying them together.

Meanwhile, back at the studio, Kenneth was falling for a new blind intern. In typical 30 Rock fashion, Tracy ended up being Kenneth’s voice as he was too shy to actually speak, and the “best restaurant in New York” was really the TGS studio. I think the funniest part of this whole episode was watching Jenna try to sound like Michael McDonald while singing. Either that, or the blind girl dumping Kenneth because he was ugly.

The last few episodes of 30 Rock have been really strong, and I hope that they can keep it up.

Enjoy some quotes:

“Elisa is deeply religious.” – Jack
“If I had those knockers, I’d be thanking god too.” – Liz

“Wow. That was really great stew.” – Drew
“Thank you, it’s my very own recipe where I use cheddar cheese instead of water.” – Liz
“I may have sodomized our former vice president while under the influence of weapons grade narcotics.” – Jack, in confession
