The Middleman is canceled (pretty much) – UPDATE

The MiddlemanEver since The Middleman aired its first season finale last September, fans have been waiting desperately for some sign as to what was going to happen to the ABC Family show. It’s gotten no word of renewal nor cancellation, and anyone associated with the show is simply keeping their mouths shut about it.

Well, I’d had enough of this ridiculous silence, so I contacted the former publicist for the show, to see if I could get some news. First of all, note I said “former” there — that’s the first hint I got, when my contact wrote me back. As for any sort of official note about the show, I was told: “No official word has been made yet, but we are working to make an announcement soon about the show.” When I asked if the fact that this person “was” the publicist (as in, not anymore) for The Middleman was a hint at what to expect, I got the reply (with a smiley): “No comment.”

So, with that information, I’d say The Middleman is as good as done. Why do networks delay news like this, when they’ve clearly already made up their minds about it? Maybe the announcement is that it’s moving networks? That there’s a TV movie coming? If that’s the case, then it’s still over at ABC Family.

By the way, you can catch The Middleman‘s Matt Keeslar on this Friday’s episode of Dollhouse, which is a better episode than the premiere, if you ask me. Good for Matt for finding some work.

UPDATE: Now I see why I couldn’t be told any official word just yet. Turns out ABC Family had an exclusive deal with TV Guide to announce the news that The Middleman‘s series finale (so, that settles that it’s canceled) will be released in graphic novel format, called The Middleman: The Doomsday Armageddon Apocalypse, along with the rest of the televised series on DVD this summer.

Well, there goes my opinion of ABC Family. Between cancelling The Middleman and Kyle XY, they’re not doing anything I want to watch any more.

I loved The Middleman. I just don’t think ABC Family was the right place for it. And moving it from 8:00 to 10:00 was pretty much a death sentence. Just goes to show that none of the ABC-related network programmers have any taste – R.I.P. Middleman, Kyle XY, Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money.

The Middleman was a great show. I seriously hope this is wrong and they are getting a 2nd season, but they probably did axe it.

I liked this show it was quirky and fun. Hearing how many ways the Middleman could swear without actually swearing was part of the charm dang gum it!

The only thing I watched on ABC Family was the Middleman and the full length Harry Potter movies and the only thing I watched on ABC was Pushing Daisies. Looks like both channels can be dropped from my schedule.
