This week’s episode of 24 – Really?!!

24_jack_bauerI always love hearing Jack Bauer yell “Get on the ground!” It’s become a catch-phrase in our household, and we were blessed to hear it in this week’s episode of 24. Jack said it to Dubaku’s driver after the car flipped over.

Still, despite the high-action drama of this episode, there were plenty of things that had me going, “Really?!”

For instance:

When Dubaku cradled Marika’s head in his hands and said, “I trusted you! How could you do this to me?!” Really?! Aren’t you the terrorist here? Shouldn’t SHE be saying that to you?

When Jack stuck his hand into Dubaku’s gut and pulled out the digital storage device, then gave it to someone to give to Larry. Really?! Sure, it worked out OK, because the device actually made it to Larry, but I was screaming at Jack for trusting some stranger with a powerful piece of evidence.

When Larry doesn’t take extra precautions to secure the computer servers, even though he KNOWS there’s a mole inside the FBI who might try to thwart the downloading of Dubaku’s files. Really, Larry?! What a dope you are!

When Sean shot Erica, then shot himself to make it look like Erica was the mole. Really, Sean?! Did you think they wouldn’t figure this out eventually, even if they didn’t recover the files which, in fact, they did?

When Jack snarled at Renee that if she ever pulled a weapon on him again, she’d better intend to use it, and she said, “I did.” Really, Renee?! Just moments earlier, you were all up in Jack’s face about how he didn’t have any feelings and then you’re all whacked out over Marika’s death (whom you’ve only known for, what, one hour), but yet you would have shot Jack point blank? Really?!

Yeah, I know, I know. Just relax, Jane, and enjoy the show. Don’t make such a big deal out of it. But … really?! Did any of this stuff make you go “Really?!!” this week?

Oh I thought the same but this still isn’t suitcase nuke quality if you know what I mean.

You forgot the scene where Marika’s sister accused Renee of “killing” her sister. That was so over the top I chuckled while my eyes found out what the back of their sockets look like.

And the real problem underneath it all is that the season practically ended with this episode and they simply started a new one – sure, the people behind it all now have a different plan but the cut couldn’t have been clearer. They could’ve ended the show with this episode and the cliffhanger was a bit of a letdown.

And finally there’s this whole Jack Bauer problem. He disregards all democratic values, all rights and tells a woman *snicker* that she’ll learn to live with it. Yeah right. That scene again reminded me how pissed off I am at “24” in general for delivering this message that the ends justify the means. I hate this “logic”. I hate it that “of course Jack Bauer has a hard time with what he does but he’d do it again” – that Lone Ranger crap. One guy had to do it. You see one guy had to blow up the Asteroid in “Armageddon”. “24” is pissing on the foundation of society. It makes CSI torture camps in Georgia (I mean the country, not the state) so totally fine with people.

So if you don’t overthink the latter you also learn not to overthing the former.

As long as there are no suitcase nukes…

I was just sorta dumbfounded about how we were supposed to suspend disbelief that when they used a defibrillator on the guy it didn’t corrupt a memory card. Somehow I think thousands of volts is going to ruin the data. That’s just me. Otherwise, I liked it.

Why I didnt get was how Billy Walsh took that shot to the arm better than Jack Bauer would, the guy is a suit at a desk!

Sorry for the Entourage references.

I think the whole point of the show 24 is that there are people like Jack out there doing the dirty work and taking the fall for it so that people like the first reviewer can have the freedom to express their opinions so freely and to live with peace of mind. The whole point of 24 is that people like Jack pay the price for our innocence.

I thought that episode was rubbish just cos of all the “really!??!?” moments. The classic 24 moment of: Dubaku wasn’t the really bad guy… now we’ve gotta stop the REALLY bad guy! Remember when 24 plots used to be nicely intertwined… and to think they’ve had an extra year to make this plot work.

I wish they would go more into the ‘don’t feel a thing’ territory… its interesting
