Lost in Lost – Where is Daniel?

LostI know that all the talk after last week’s episode of Lost was about Ben, and his fate, but, frankly, that’s not the character that I’ve been thinking about the most recently. I don’t think there are any alternate timelines at work and I don’t think little Ben is in any real danger; he’ll be fine.

The one person that I am beginning to worry about more and more is Daniel. We don’t know much about his current (if we can use that word anymore with all the time travel) situation. What we do know is that he is not with the others in Dharmaville, as Sawyer said, “not anymore.”

So where is the missing scientist? Here are some of my thoughts:

  • Daniel is dead: The easy answer. Daniel has met an unfortunate end. Perhaps he ran off and was killed by hostiles, though there is the truce to consider. Perhaps there was a terrible accident down in the Orchid station where we saw him working during the premier. Maybe he just couldn’t stand life with the Dharma Initiative, having to be around young Charlotte, and he offed himself. History has shown that he’s not the most mentally stable individual.
  • Daniel ran away: Again, maybe Faraday couldn’t stand to be around Charlotte, knowing that there was nothing that he could do to change her fate. It’s possible that he just ran off into the jungle. That could open up a lot of possibilities as to his fate. Was he a victim of the smoke monster? Has he joined the hostiles? Is he hanging out with Danielle? I think it would be fun to see Daniel and Danielle, crazying it up.
  • Daniel is off the island: We know that there are subs going back and forth from the island. Has Daniel decided that he could build a life for himself off the island in 1977? I don’t think it’s a very realistic option. I think it is plausible, however, that he was involved in some of the testing of the Orchid station. Maybe, just maybe, he found himself waking up in the middle of the Tunisian desert in some year other than 1977. That would definitely lead to some interesting story possibilities.

Whatever Daniel’s fate may be, I don’t expect to find out for a little while. This seems to be one of the mysteries that is going to be put on the back burner for a little while. That’s the feeling that I get, at least. When mysteries linger, it usually means that the reveal has bigger implications than we might expect. Stay tuned.

I think he coming back this week. We have to start getting some answers or we are going to start running into to the same old problem with Lost that we always have, too many questions, and not enough answers.

For that matter, where’s Desmond and how will he figure in to what’s happening on the island?

It’s been four episodes since we last saw him.

more annoying question in my mind – where are rose and bernard?!? wouldn’t they have been travelling in the same time patterns are sawyer/juliet? are they others now?

Uhm – what’s with 2b) Daniel ran away and joined the Hostiles?

God damn it I pushed return not to send stupid browser.

I mean isn’t that the most obvious one? If he wants to save his girlfriend to be then he’ll have to join the others. I don’t see any way around it. Being dead is a no no for me – if that was the case Sawyer would have simply said “He’s dead” and not “Not anymore”.

But again – I might be wrong.

First of all he has to work with Dharma so he can show up in that scene where they find the cave with the wheel – we saw him there. So he was with Dharma for quite a while. Maybe he left the island to do research but I seriously doubt that.

I think a standoff-situation Dharma/Hostiles with Daniel is the best scenario we can think of. What would his use be off the island.

And Danielle? I don’t think so. She killed all of her companions and now lives secluded. What would he do with her? Hold her hand going “There there”?

Nah I’m for 2b) Hostiles. Log it in please ^^;

My guess is he’s hopping through time in an attempt to find a way to save Charlotte.
