Lily wasn’t in this episode, since Alyson Hannigan was probably huger than huge during the filming of this show. You can move past it, I know you can. Move on, and embrace the many character quirks that this episode celebrated.
We know that each of our beloved How I Met Your Mother characters is a little … off. Lily is a crappy teacher who’s a shopaholic saboteur of Ted’s relationships. That adds up to weird, right? Let’s explore some of the other characters’ quirks that were exploited in tonight’s episode.
Barney, master of the Barneyism
This dude has hit us with more than a few memorable moments in the series’ history. Tonight, we heard all about Barney and Jesus.
The story of Jesus waiting just the right amount of time — three days — to really make an impact was hilarious, but when Barney also let it slip that when Jesus finally revealed himself as risen from the dead that he invented the high five, well, that was classic Barney.
Two more of his quirks showed up in this episode too. His sensitive side, when Stan was touching the cockles of Barney’s heart with his warm text ideas, and the fact that Barney considers himself to be Ted’s best friend, not Marshall.
Ted, King dork
Uh, texty text? It’s a good thing that one was intercepted by Barney and Marshall, ’cause… ewwww — what a dork! We know Ted’s a boring dork, but texty text was classic, and I loved that the red cowboy boots made a reappearance.
The naked lady noise was a nice addition to Ted’s dorkiness, because what’s a dork without a side of perve?
Marshall, conspiracy theorist
Machines will rise up against us … need I say more? Highlighted only by the fact that Ted took him completely seriously when he mentioned this … what a dork.
Robin, slut
Of course Robin would have a date with Stan, she dates everyone, or at least sleeps with them. If only she had wielded a gun at some point, or made an obscure Canadian reference, we would have gotten a full picture of Robin. There’s only so much you can do while hiding a baby bump I suppose.

I LOVED the Barney-Jesus story. LOOOVED IT.
Lily clearly wasn’t around because she was SOOO offended by the Peanut Butter & Jam joke.
Or, you know, because like you said, she was a bit pregnant.
I’m continuing to dig any Marshall and Barney pairing. Any time they get together its becoming comedic gold (Wearing Night Shirts, Cuddling by the window, “Why do we keep trying to have sex with Ted?”).
Marshall and Barney are gold.
I’d always wanted to know what Kevin Michael Richardson (Stan) looked like in live-action. He saved the second half of the episode for me.
barney was great. that wole speech at the beiginning was great. he is so right about the women with names that end in i instead of y. great times….
I was actually annoyed at the whole “How long do you wait to call her” theme of the episode. Holy over done. But Barney’s Jesus story redemmed it a bit.
