Because, you know it had to be something for women; I don’t think Julie’s (Bess Rous) really building an inventory for men. Geez, did that housewares party throw me for a loop!
This week we got a lot of Joan. Now, I’ve never been a huge fan, and the beginning of the most recent episode of Army Wives simply underlined why: she’s incapable of being both an officer, and a wife/mother, at times. We all come home with baggage from the office, and I know that the Army is a lot more than an “office,” but she needs to be home, too, even if there’s a big thing happening at work. A lot of us battle with the same issue, but it’s an important one.
I did, however, love field-commander Joan, and its clear that she needs to be in theater, and not in an office. Screw gender-biases that still abound in the Army; have you ever seen a male officer more formidable than Joan was? And I mean that in a good way. She’s second to no one … well, except for all the officers who are her senior, of course.
I am so happy for her (and for us) that she knocked Evan Connors (Matthew Glave) on his butt, and that the whole spy thing finally woke Michael up to the fact that Connors is not someone he wants around (where’ve you been?). Yes, he clearly has a powerful “godfather,” or “rabbi,” in this case General Rutledge, but he’s done with General Holden, and Fort Marshall. Thanks for playing!
I don’t know how I feel about the little wink that Frank gave to Joan in the war-games (it makes sense, but I never thought of Frank as being subordinate to her. How’d she make up for his years of seniority so quickly?), but I like seeing our players interact. I can’t remember when we’ve ever heard Frank and Joan speak, so it was nice.
I also like the command, “Lock it up,” that Joan spits at the spy in her camp. I’m trying to see if it’ll work on my fourteen month-old.
Trevor redeemed himself, at least in Joan’s eyes, but did he prove himself a competent soldier and leader, or just a good play-actor? And, how does Roxy still not understand the significance of his being in the Army? To her it’s just like any other job … what planet is she on?
I’m not sure why Jennifer Connors (Mayte Garcia) was brought back now – uch, what a despicable person – just as she and her husband will be leaving for Washington. What was the point? And, to add questions to questions, Emmalin’s all of a sudden transformed, and also not in any hot water for all the trouble she’s caused her family? Whose family would that happen in?
A parting message to “D”: You should be thanking God that Frank’s giving you a second chance, so don’t act like something’s wrong when he’s not instantaneously ready to hop back into bed, or have you move back into the house. Plus, how long’s he been home now, two weeks? Are we meant to feel anything positive for Denise?
Which is too bad, too, because once upon a time, I really liked her.
Loved seeing the end of the Connors. Evan’s face was priceless when he got ‘killed’ and I thought Frank was gonna laugh right in his face.
Roland’s face at the Naughty Nighty party was too funny. And yes, they do have things for the men *blush*.
This episode was the most fun I’ve had watching in a long time.
