TV on DVD for August 4th – Ladies go crazy for Jemaine’s sugalumps

August in DVD-land is starting out much slower than July finished, but there are still some gems to be had as we enter the homestretch to the new fall season. Chief among those for me is Flight Of The Conchords. How can you not like Bret and Jemaine? They’ll be joined on the shelves by Project Runway, an odd Stargate: Atlantis collection, The Love Boat, and Elvis Presley. Join me after the jump for the rest of the list, and the “Sugalumps” video.

Flight Of The Conchords: The Complete Second Season This strange little show has become my favorite thing about HBO. It’s even better than The Nekkid Anna Paquin Show. And I really like Anna Paquin. Season two doesn’t miss a beat, with highlight after highlight. The purchase of a teacup spirals out of control, and the boys end up as prostitutes. They start a gang. Jemaine is shunned for dating an Australian. Bret and Jemaine do Simon & Garfunkel. The Prime Minister of New Zealand stops by to make Murray’s life even crazier. There’s a battle over a girl. And that doesn’t even get into all of the great songs. Here’s a look at “Sugalumps.”
Project Runway: Season 5 I’m probably about as far from the target demo of Project Runway as a person can get. I’m lucky enough to have a job with no dress code, which means every day is jeans and t-shirt day. Still, like Hank Venture with the slit in his Batman mask, I can’t help it. It’s maddening. Season five holds true to form, with a group of contestants you will alternately pull for, root against, and on occasion, wonder who let that brand of crazy in here. The release is good timing, as well. The sixth season is finally set to air later this month.
