The Vampire Diaries stream of consciousness

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

“Someone had to mow the lawn….” – Damon to Zach, after Zach moans about how Damon’s presence is a reminder that he’s letting him live

My thoughts about this episode ran the gamut from totally boring, to wickedly violent, to how can you leave us hanging like that? It was like a stream of consciousness, only Keith had the good fortune that I wrote it all down instead of spewed it out during the entire show.

Want a glimpse inside one viewer’s brain tonight? Here are my thoughts as the episode played out:

  • Wow, Damon is going to friggin’ hate Stefan when he escapes, and he will escape. [So did I call that, or what?]
  • What’s with the crystal? It’s got some mojo we’re not going to want to miss.
  • The first eight minutes were totally boring after the way they left us at the end of the last episode. I want hunters!
  • Nicely filmed Zach attack. Yeah, I’m thinking about Saved By The Bell now too.
  • Finally, after the break the hunters join us, but it’s just a tease — find the watch, blah, blah, blah.
  • Stefan confesses a lot to Elena about Katherine … hmmm. Why, all of a sudden?
  • Stefan vamps out when Elena cuts her hand, Moonlight style.
  • Bonnie is a most excellent witch. In fact, her powers have gone from mildly psychic to bursting a car into flames in a matter of weeks. Willow would be jealous.
  • Caroline, there’s a crow stalking you. Don’t you find that strange?
  • Tiki’s a bitch, but I lover her cute Grandpa with the iron-clad memory.
  • Why would Stefan and Damon break the cardinal vampire rule? You don’t go back to the same town boys. Even the lame-ass Cullens know they have to move around.
  • We’re getting a little more lore: Vervain weakens vamps enough that sunlight becomes a problem for them, but garlic has no effect. Vervain, the garlic of The Vampire Diaries. At least they can eat Italian food. And be filmed, apparently.
  • Dude, snap! And I mean that literally. Poor Uncle Zach!
  • Elena doesn’t believe, yet she puts the pieces together pretty quickly. How do you like your vampy boyfriend now?
  • Wow. Those were the grossest sound effects in vampire TV history. Damon slurps on Vicki like she’s made of chocolate.

What did your stream of consciousness tell you about The Vampire Diaries tonight? Love it? Hate it? Grossed out or bored by it? Yep, all of those things.

Vervain actually has nothing to do with sunlight harming them, It is their ring that helps them go out in sunlight or else they burned (it was noted in the pilot and the last episode). Stefan took off Damon’s ring and so sunlight harmed Damon when he tried to chase after Caroline.

Ah! I totally missed that, but I did wonder why Stefan wouldn’t take his ring off at the car wash. Now I know — thank you!
