Heroes – Things are starting to align

Heroes

I don’t want to say that this episode of Heroes was boring, because it wasn’t. For the most part I was entertained through the whole hour. With that being said, however, it seemed like the events of this episode were more of a “mean” than an “end.” I think that this installment was setting up and positioning characters for the rest of the season. Frankly, I’m more curious about where everything is headed than I was about anything that actually happened this week.

It seems like Sylar has finally taken control of Matt. We all saw this coming, didn’t we? I mean, Matt’s not the smartest character. It was only a matter of time before Sylar outsmarted him. I, for one, am happy with this turn of events. I think that Matt with Sylar in control is going to be a hell of a lot more interesting than Matt with Sylar taunting him in his brain. There was even a Mohinder shout-out, though the good doctor didn’t actually show up for this episode. With so many weeks without an appearance, I’m figuring that his return is going to have to be epic, or he’s just gone for good.

It was nice to see some genuine character growth and development in Tracy’s character this week. She seems to be destined to end up at the carnival. The Sullivan brothers’ outfit still seems to be very mysterious. I’m just not totally sure what Samuel is up to, or if he is up to anything specifically. Things do seem to be building to some sort of public outing of the heroes though, doesn’t it? Tracy was certainly thinking about it in this episode, whether or not Noah thought it was a feasible possibility, and Samuel seems like he might appreciate the same thing. That would be an interesting turn of events, and this show needs something big to happen.

It also looks like more and more people are finding out about Claire’s special ability. It’s going to be interesting to see if Becky just disappears now that Claire is on to her. I’ve really enjoyed Tessa Thompson in her brief appearances this season and hope that she doesn’t turn invisible permanently.

Moving forward it looks like all these characters are headed to the carnival. Sylar is going to be searching for his body, Claire is probably going to be searching for Becky, and Tracy seems to be searching for a purpose. I may not be loving this season, but I am curious to see how (and if) it is all going to come together.

I’m really curious as to what Samuel’s endgame is. The whole carnival thing started “off” for me, but I really like the tweaks that the actor has brought to the table.

I missed the Mohinder reference, but I haven’t missed him all season, so :)

I think I’ve finally joined Brett’s bandwagon regarding Parkman. I really like Grunberg, but its time for the character to go.

I guess the final scene in the episode kinda clinches the Samuel-Magneto parallel. I am actually excited about Knepper’s character!! Though a Magneto-like character is far from original, I think it’s high time we needed someone who is powerful and pro-mutant and is willing to get his hands dirty to make sure that the “family” is safe.
