In every episode of Bones, we are “treated” to an exploration of Dr. Brennan’s distaste for all things that cannot be empirically proven. When “The Devil in the Details” started, you are left with the impression that the focus would be on Booth’s religion. The twist, however small, is that the episode really focused on Bones’s problems with psychiatry, a theme given a face, early on, by her differences with Josh Malina‘s Dr. Copeland.
It’s rare that Brennan is put in her place, even more rare that she acquiesces, and almost unheard of for her to admit she was wrong. When Copeland pulled her aside, I truly expected a bit of an argument to occur. But, instead, he made a coherent point, one that was neigh impossible to her to disagree with. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that her faith was shaken, despite what she may have said in the coda of the episode, but it was an interesting spot for her to be in.
Bones’s “growth” as a person has been obvious since the premiere of the show, something I expect will be brought into further relief if the (minor, rumored spoiler alert for those spoiler-phobes who hate even the slightest indication of what’s to come )
flashback to Bones & Booth’s first meeting
(end minor, rumored spoiler alert) occurs later this season. It’s not often that Bones recognizes Booth’s jokes and laughs at him, as she did in the teaser, but it was, one would have to admit, pretty damn cute, and another indication of her growth, as a person, and ultimately, closer to Seeley Booth. Damn it, writers, let’s just get these two together already, huh?
Week after week I talk about how these two lovebirds belong together. I whine (incessantly) that it is not happening quickly enough, and talk about how their chemistry apart wouldn’t be ruined by coming together. You want proof? Just go watch the last scene of the episode again, and get back to me. Then, we can all live together in a shiney, happy place I like to call Dorv’s World.

I play a similar game with procedurals, though in addition to looking for recognizable guest stars I also look for extraneous details about seemingly unimportant characters — especially if we learn their name.
This ep I guessed it was Jocko Sims (Crash) immediately upon his first appearance where they revealed his name, but was still proven wrong. Was a major red herring though, so I feel I deserve a consolation prize!
Anyone else notice this week’s embedded sponsor. It was solid, reliable Toyota. I guess it was kept pretty mum after all the stuff that’s happened.
Toyota has been sponsor for quite a while now. The Prius was very prominent in an earlier episode, which quite frankly annoyed me a lot.
I think this sort of product placement sucks.
But I enjoy the irony of it all :-)
yea … why were Booth and Bones driving a Prius? cutbacks at the FBI?
I’ve never payed much to the music in Bones, but this week it seemed to be pretty off. I can’t pinpoint exactly why, but it standed out in a bad way…
Anyone else feel it?
I liked seeing Vaziri’s return because I loved his ‘coming out’ episode which re-displayed the charm he exhibited in the ‘dream’ episode. However, I felt Vaziri’s accent-less charm level significantly decreased in this ep. Why? I had hoped we had gotten away from exploring the stereotypical fears/misunderstandings of his religion so we could view Vaziri on a different level. But, instead, we had Cam’s ‘white devil’ misunderstanding. I must admit, for a brief second I had hoped that a Vaz-Cam match-up might occur (i.e. his attraction to Cam = temptation = could it be satan), (despite the Wendell-Angela one). Unfortunately, that didn’t occur. But, I hope they start re-upping his charm level in the newly re-written Vaz character a la the final ep of last season & the 10/09 ep.
