Kirstie Alley celebrates, dances, pouts and pouts some more

I want to like Kirstie Alley, and I even want to root for her ... sometimes. Does this chubby Diva deserve my team loyalty?

Tara’s back again, writing once more about Kirstie Alley’s Big Life.

I was hard on Kirstie in my former review, I admit. I didn’t like the message she was sending out to those of us who are not living a privileged and “thin” life, striving to become what the media expects from women. But, I admit. I am slowly coming around.

A&E is choosing to air two episodes of this show at a time, in half hour increments. It’s probably a smart move, because as a viewer, my “like factor” for Kirstie can change in the blink of a McDonald’s fish commercial.

Example? OK. In this third episode, it’s Kirstie’s birthday. Her kids need to be prompted by her publicist to make it special, but hey, they’re young. The primary goal seems to be getting the Travoltas there, and they make it happen. Kirstie has a nice time, and is grateful and appreciative. Although I must insert here, who would not be thankful for an amazing diamond necklace and earrings from John Travolta? As well, as him flying in especially for you, and … DANCING with you. (Every girl who has watched Grease in the 1970s at the theatre knows of what I speak.) Insert swoon here.

So, we are now on to episode two. Just when I thought it was OK, Kirstie gets Diva-itis yet again. Early on, she shoved her handyman into a weight loss competition with her, because he was the only one on the spacious estate fatter than her. Her words, not mine. So Kirstie is mad because he has lost more weight than she at this point.

Ummm. Every gal knows that men lose weight faster than women, and the more you have to lose, the faster it comes off. So Handyman Jim already has the advantage. This makes Kirstie so angry, she … goes to a spa for a week! Of course! She figures being doted upon and cooked for etc. will put her in the lead. While poor ole Jim only has the personal trainer at the mansion. Which he slyly takes advantage of, for three hours per day.

Long story short, he kicks her butt by 3 pounds, and we watch her pout. She does an awful lot of pouting and threatening to Handyman Jim, and asks the mansion workers to take sides. “Team Kirstie!” Well, of course, her children and maids, and hangers pick her. I just heaved a large sigh.

But I have to see what happens next … don’t you?

I like Kirstie, loved Fat Actress and enjoy her Twitter feed. However, I have no desire to catch this show. Her weight has been done before. Twice, if I recall. Some people are not meant to be lifetime skinny. Lisa Marie Presley, Oprah, Janet Jackson and Kirstie Alley will forever be on a yo yo diet. Wish I cared, but I don’t. Still read your take on the show; its easier than watching! ;-)

That he did Sebastian, although the poor kids had to beg. AND he was a tad tardy…but you know what they say about better and never etc!
