When news broke earlier today that a nerdgasmic episode of Community is planned, one based around Dungeons & Dragons, a few things came to mind. My first thought, of course: Awesome! Next I reminisced about the other incredible thematic episodes Community has done: Paintball; zombies; Goodfellas; stop-motion; Dark Knight … and a few more. They’re among the best episodes the series has brought forth, and I have no doubt the D&D episode will rank up there with them.
Then I got to wondering what other themes/memes the show might possibly cover next. So, I put together a quick list of ones I’d love to see or at least could see happening:
A karaoke/musical battle episode — I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before Community has an all-out musical episode, so why not make it a karaoke battle of some kind? While they’re at it, throw some funny jabs at Glee.
Field of Dreams — The students of Greendale demand a new athletic field, and the school turns a deaf ear to their pleas. Then Pierce starts to hear the call from his departed dad, and he gets to work to make the field himself. As a result, he tears down the Greendale community garden to build a basketball court.
Wargames — Abed stumbles upon a computer network within the school that wasn’t supposed to be discovered. However, by accessing it and by playing and actually winning Nethack, he unleashes technology hell upon the school’s computer systems, and only he can stop it.
Supermarionation — Y’know, Thunderbirds! They did stop-motion already, so let’s see the gang as puppets next. I have no idea how this would fit into a story, but there’s no doubt it’d be awesome.
The Shawshank Redemption — Abed and Troy get accused by Dean Pelton of something they didn’t do and, as a result, are forced to be his lackeys. Eventually Troy is let free and he tells Abed of a place he’ll hide something for him. Abed eventually finds a clever way out of his situation while pinning the whole thing on Pelton in the first place. He locates Troy’s hiding place, which turns out to be a note to “meet in the parking lot.” There Abed meets Troy has he’s putting the finishing wax job on the used car he said he was going to buy.
Yeah, I’m no TV writer, which is why I’m here at this blog and not writing for Community. But, hey, I thought these up in an hour, and it was fun. That’s all that matters. What themes would you like to see?
I’m pretty burned out by all the big themes/parodies, but still recording the show for some reason. I’d like a nice, quiet sitcom episode without all the meta for once.
Really looking forward to it.
