Will House be the same without Cuddy?

With the news breaking that Lisa Edelstein is leaving 'House,' I can't help but wonder where that leaves our anti-hero in what will likely be his last season.

Dear Lisa Edelstein / Cuddy,

I’m sorry to hear that your contact negotiations didn’t go well and that you’ll be leaving House for what is likely its final season. I want to wish you well in whatever endeavors you may pursue, but that’s after I say …

… really, Lisa? You couldn’t hang on for one more season? It’s been a pleasure watching House grow through his relationship with you, and now you’re taking all of that away from us. This isn’t like when Stacy (Sela Ward) left. We were barely invested in that relationship. We’ve had seven years to watch you and House do the dance and to have it end so abruptly, well, really stinks.

What about the fact that House trusts you, Cuddy, and we just left him knowing he can’t continue with his reckless behavior — doesn’t that mean something? If you leave, where does that leave House? I don’t want to go back to the seasons before his growth; he’s learned too much for that. But without you, that may very well be where we end up. Who’s going to tell him he can be a better man, and make him believe it? Who else could turn him into a family man? Who’s going to keep him in line at work, or at least pretend to? I can’t bear to have the eighth season be all about House butting heads with the new Dean of Medicine who doesn’t let House get away with his diagnostic antics.

I know a pay cut is insulting, but you’d be left with two-million dollars — probably enough to get by on for another year. I don’t mean to undermine your amazing work in any way, but before House, you were best known for your role as a transvestite on Ally McBeal, so you may have to admit you owe David Shore and friends a little bit for your success.

Couldn’t you hang around for just one more little old season and let the House and Cuddy dance play out? You know the writers will do it right. What do you say?

Sincerely,

Debbie

i have what would be the series finale in mind, it would be the pilot ep all over again with House in a teaching job in another state and in the back of the class he see’s all his former employee’s dead and alive and he starts off with his classic line of “Everyone lies”

While I was never really that into Huddy, I’m still sorry to see the character go so abruptly. Also they need to get some new female cast to replace her stat, because if 13 is the only female cast member next season, it’ll make the show unwatchable for me. I already fast forward through most of her scenes.

I’m disappointed that Edelstein is leaving, too, and the part of Cuddy has certainly been her biggest. However, don’t you think it’s something of an insult to ask her to take a pay cut for what is being called the final season of the show? I don’t understand the thinking behind that decision.

Yes, the producers gave her a part that made her a star, but I would argue that Edelstein’s talent was a bigger part of making her that star. To ask the only original female lead on one of the most popular shows on television to take a pay cut like this is most definitely insulting. While I’ll be very sad to see her go, I’m behind her in this decision all the way.

I have to agree with Kate that there needs to be more female characters on the show. I wish a deal could be made with Amber Tamblyn to reprise her role as Martha Masters. We found her character to be interesting and enjoyable. While Cuddy kept House somewhat in line, she could be a bit annoying at times whereas Masters could often undermine House in the most meek and intelligent ways. She was unique where I find 13 to be a little bland.

I totally support Edelstein. I want her character to remain, but she isn’t exactly pulling an Abdul and requesting more money. All she wants is her pre-existing salary. Considering Laurie makes more than twice her salary at 400,000 and doesn’t have to take a paycut, I’d also feel slightly insulted. Sure, Laurie’s awesome; but, an awesome show also requires awesome supporting characters.

You are comparing the star of the show to a one dimensional character? Also Hugh Laurie will get paid whatever he wants, he is the star of the show, and doesn’t need to take a pay cut because he is under contract.

The character of Cuddy may not be very deep, but she’s a little more than one-dimensional. The important thing about her character is her interaction and effect on House. I liked it best when Cuddy was only in brief segments, usually battling with House over something crazy dangerous he wanted to do, but those were integral segments that showed and shaped the character of Dr. House.

Killing the “Huddy” relationship was a really good thing, but I think the show needs Cuddy back as the seldom seen adversary and sometimes reluctant ally of House.

No more Cuddy, so what? The character had no depth and she’s not hot.
Poll: What will happen with House without Lisa Edelstein a.k.a. Dr. Cuddy?

My vote is that the show is better off. Good riddance!

I guess I’m with Julia on this even if she didn’t reply yet I have a feeling I know what she’s going to say :-)

Best news EVAR!! Glad to see both Cuddy and LE are moving on. I think there’s more to LE’s departure than money. She was a piece of work in terms of media relations.

Without Lisa E the show will not be the same, I loved the idea of House and Cuddy that is what made the show for me and with Cuddy gone now, that just sucks and I don’t think I will watch it anymore. I have e-mailed all the Fox big people to try and see what they say!

Good Luck House Fans :)
