The Secret Circle – Is everyone in Chance Harbor a witch?

Good fortune, witch hunters! While it was Mr. Wilson’s intent to protect Cassie, his warning to Jake benefited the witch hunters as much as the witches. The world of The Secret Circle is growing very quickly. It seems like everyone in Chance Harbor is either a witch of some talent, or a hunter trying to take them down. But I really have to ask: Did anyone you know in high school throw parties like that without getting caught?

If I didn’t see the reveal of Luke as a witch hunter coming (which, I have to be honest, I didn’t), then the group finding him out and his eventual death were damn near shocking. I like that the stakes are pretty high for the circle, especially because they are working without a net; they are almost as in the dark about this world they were born into as the audience is in watching it. The show has proven that it isn’t afraid of killing off a character or two, even ones the audience thought were pretty safe. These kids have to be a little smarter.

Cassie’s decision to take the broken blade to Mr. Wilson seemed completely unnecessary to me. Why risk revealing her “special” nature to anyone if she doesn’t have to? Her grandmother has been a pretty forthright source of information, and all she would have had to do is wait a couple of days. Instead, seeking answers about the blade got Wilson killed.

I’m not sure how it happened, but I think I’m solidly in the Adam and Diana camp. When he came to check on her at the end of the night, the speech he gave won me over. As much as I like Cassie and enjoy the idea of a “fated relationship,” I am no longer pulling for her and Adam to get together. Considering Cassie’s last date turned out to be a witch hunter, maybe she should take some time off from the dating scene.

It seems to me that another player might have entered the game. Whoever knocked Jane out and stole the crystal has to be someone we haven’t yet met, right? The first thought we’re supposed to have is that it was Charles. If that were the case, why not just show his face? And if it is Charles, has he just gone to the lake to sulk over another dead body, and just happened upon Jane coming to visit? No, I think not. So who else would benefit from owning a crystal?

Apparently, the answer to that question is “a lot of people.” While I never read the original books by LJ Smith that The Secret Circle was based on, I knew I was getting into a world with a lot of mythology. What I didn’t expect was how quickly the world we were being introduced to would expand. I’m more accustomed to shows doing the slow burn: not revealing too much for the sake of saving stories for later. I know that The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural are similar to this, but I don’t watch those shows, so it is a refreshing change for me.
