The summer television season may be over, but that doesn’t mean it is quickly forgotten. The number of summer shows seems to increase each year as does the quality. After the Teen Wolf finale, I decided to go back and watch the first season on Netflix. That’s when I remembered that the amazing credit sequence was new this summer and got me to thinking about my other favorites, including Suits.
In order to find out the best summer opening credit sequence, we are taking the question to you! To get a wide range of nominees, I asked not only the other CliqueClack writers, but posed the question on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
Teen Wolf received the most nominations.
Deb: It looks nice, but the actual theme music is amazing. I didn’t realize how much I loved it until the second season finale, when they used the music for a fight scene and it was spectacular.
Sandrine (Facebook nomination): I literally just wrote about my love for the Teen Wolf opening sequence this morning. I think it’s my favorite ever.
Julia: Oh, not even a question it’s Teen Wolf. Not only are they gorgeous, but they’re rife with symbolism and hints that careful viewers can pick up. Genius.
Suits tied in second with a couple nominations on Facebook.
Michelle: (Facebook nomination): Yeah I gotta go with Suits. That song just WON’T get out of my head. LOL
Futurama was tied with two nominations from Clackers.
Katie: I have to give it to Futurama. Not only is it one of my favorite opening credits on TV in general, but the recent handmade replica they used was fantastic.
Wilfred
Michael: For those who don’t watch the show, the lullaby quality of the theme music introducing the quotation used to set the stage for the episode (which fades into the episode title, usually one word) is mesmerizing, hopeful and contrasts brilliantly with what unfolds on the screen for the next 22 minutes.
Dallas
Chuck: … just because of that great theme song. I liked Dallas just because it was such a nostalgic rush to hear that theme song again (I do wish they’d stayed true to the original and featured the actors faces in the credits too, but it was interesting that they alternated Jesse Metcalfe’s and Josh Henderson’s name week to week so they each had five weeks of top billing).
Nominations (without comment): True Blood, Louie and Bunheads.
Twitter nominations: Rizzoli & Isles, Weeds and Breaking Bad
@TeslaSavvy: Rizzoli & Isles. I’M SHIPPING UP TO BOSTON!!! (I dance around every time I watch!)
@kyool: I like the opening sequence to final season of #Weeds–nice callback to seq used 4 early seasons, plus summarizes entire series
@wondroushippo: I vote Breaking Bad, just because of the way that it’s used as a brilliant sting after the opening teaser.

The poll closes Monday, September 10th at 11:59 pm ET. You can vote once a day.
I’ve seen most of the ones on the list. I don’t watch “Teen Wolf”, so I’d never seen those before, but watching them on YouTube, they seem repetitive and forgettable. I like the “Bunheads” credits and “Louie” (is that what “Louis” is supposed to be?), and as a longtime “Weeds” fan, I love their nostalgic look back at previous years (although the best version of that song is the original one!). Also, while most of the “Suits” lyrics don’t really make sense for the show, I do like the feeling it leaves the viewer with.
But my vote goes to “Dallas”, for all the reasons that Chuck says. I also think it’s a great piece of theme music even if the viewer doesn’t have any nostalgia for the original.
Covert Affairs
Looking at the choices I have to once again lament the semi-death of credit sequences on TV shows. The opening credits & themes for classic TV shows up into the 90s are part of what remain in the collective popular culture. There’s a reason that for many years the TV themes CDs were so popular–heck I still listen to them, happily humming or singing along. These sequences help reinforce the programs identity and provide a ‘hook’ so to speak. In the age of carving more time out for commercials and shrinking actual showtime its been pretty typical to see the micro credits.
Luckily there has been a bit of a resurgence in full credits. After all where would the H50 reboot be without the opening and theme music? But I still remember the huge fandom outcry when they removed the full opening credit sequences from season 9 of Stargate SG-1 and season 2 of Stargate Atlantis.
I can’t stand the True Blood opening sequence. While the tune is catchy, the visuals are awful. Wish they would change it up.
That’s what I like about the Weeds opening–new band singing the theme song each week–like they did for seasons 1-3–plus the visual gives you a nice summary of the events of the entire series.
I do also like the improved opening sequence for the runaway leader, Teen Wolf. For season 2 they added some cool visuals.
Suits. SO gotten.
Suits all the way. Aaaaalllll the wayyy. Foreverrrr. Best show ever.
Teen Wolf. It’s such a beautiful title sequence and the music is awesome as well!
Teen Wolf for sure!!!
Unforgetable and The best ….
Suits ,,, First time ever notice an opening !!!
Teen Wolf !!
Teen Wolf!
Where’s the poll? I can’t actually see it to vote in it. But here’s the write in and it’s for Teen Wolf
I like Suits’ but they had the same opening as season one’s so I’m gonna go with Teen Wolf. Like someone mentioned, lots of symbolism and even some foreshadowing in it. Simple, stylish, artistic, with an unforgettable soundtrack.
I really loved the opening sequence for ‘Common Law’.
Suits , no doubt.
I voted for Suits, but the opening sequence for Alphas is pretty kickass too.
Suits all the way. Seriously teen wolf? How fucking gay to you get I would rather watch twilight 50 times over then shoot myself in the face
Teen Wolf! The symbolism is astounding.
